Every one of us has a prayer we’ve stopped praying because it felt like nothing was happening. In this week’s message from The Circle Maker series, let’s unpack the life of Joseph — a man who waited 22 years between a dream and its fulfillment — to show us that God’s silence is never God’s absence.
Planted, Not Buried
Joseph’s brothers stripped him of his coat, threw him into a pit, and sold him into slavery (Genesis 37:5-7, 24). By every visible measure, his dream was dead and buried. But what looked like a grave was actually a garden. “They thought they buried him, but Joseph was planted.” Whatever situation looks like it’s burying you right now may in fact be the very place God is planting you.
Trust the Underground Work
For 13 years, Joseph moved between slavery and an Egyptian dungeon — yet Scripture repeatedly notes, “the Lord was with him” (Genesis 39:20-21). In the dark, God was sharpening Joseph’s gifts of interpretation (Genesis 40:8) and shaping his character until even Pharaoh declared no one was as wise and discerning as him (Genesis 41:39-40). Waiting is not wasted time — it’s God matching your character to your calling.
- Expect a Generational Harvest
Twenty-two years after his dream began, Joseph stood as Egypt’s prime minister and saved not just himself, but his entire family and nation from famine (Genesis 45:4-7). When his brothers feared retaliation, Joseph’s response reframed everything: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good… to save many lives” (Genesis 50:19-20). Long-buried prayers don’t just fix your immediate problem — they bring generational breakthrough.
Whatever seed you buried in prayer months or even years ago — don’t dig it back up. Trust the underground work.
