About Ocean

Dar es Salaam is a melting pot of cultures, and so is Ocean Church.

Who we are

We are a community of locals, expats, students, and young families from all over the world. Whether you are in Dar for a two-year work contract or have lived here your whole life, you will find a diverse community eager to welcome you.

As a part of the Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG), we combine deep spiritual roots with a modern, urban approach to ministry. We believe Jesus is as present on your Monday morning as on your Sunday.

What we believe

At Ocean Church, our faith is anchored in the Bible as our guide for living, serving, and growing together in Christ. We invite you to explore the fundamental truths that shape our mission and our fellowship.

Our vision
and mission

We are dedicated to leading people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ where they become passionately committed to knowing Him and making Him known.

Connect

We exist to help you find a place to belong, connecting you to Jesus, the church, and one another.

Grow

We are here to help you flourish through life-giving relationships, discipleship and ministry.

Serve

We are passionate about leading people to discover their purpose by serving within the church and our community.

Go

We are dedicated to fulfilling the Great Commission, empowered to share God's love with the world until all know Him.

Our core values

01

We seek God first

Through prayer, the Word, and the Spirit, we align everything in our lives with His will.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33 NIV

02

We are contributors, not consumers

Each of us is called and gifted to add value to the church and community for God's glory.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.

1 Peter 4:10 NIV

03

We are committed to excellence

God always deserves our best, so we strive to exceed expectations in all we do.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9 NIV

04

We move boldly, not in fear

The gospel is urgent, and we honor God with confident, courageous steps.

Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.

2 Corinthians 3:12 NIV

05

We choose and value each other

Life is better together; we intentionally build relationships and support one another.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Philippians 2:3–4 NIV

06

We give generously

We are conduits of God's grace, love, and blessings, sharing abundantly with others.

But since you excel in everything, in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you, see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

Pastor Matroner George

Lead Pastor

Pastor Matroner loves helping people know Jesus personally, grow as disciples and live out their faith in ways that change things around them. She and her husband, Lewis Ruhiza, live in Dar es Salaam with their five children: Anaïs, Amaury, Arisa, Aziel and Artémis.

Years of discipleship ministry have given her a gift for equipping people to walk in their purpose, and a particular heart for the city's urban generation through the Urban Tribe movement.
