The Missing Peace
In a season marked by national uncertainty, civil unrest, and personal anxiety, the search for tranquility often feels like a journey for something “missing.” However, peace is not merely a holiday sentiment or the temporary absence of conflict. It is a spiritual reality rooted in the presence of God. This sermon series, titled The Missing Peace , explores how a mind fixed on the eternal Rock can move from the “imperfect peace” of worldly circumstances to the “perfect peace” promised by God.

Understanding “Perfect Peace” (Shalom)
The biblical concept of peace is far deeper than a quiet environment.
- The Power of Shalom: In the Old Testament, the word is Shalom , meaning wholeness, completeness, and fullness. It is a peace that touches every area of life.
- Shalom-Shalom: In Isaiah 26:3 , the Hebrew text repeats the word (Shalom Shalom). Repetition in Hebrew indicates intensity; God isn’t just offering peace, but a “double portion” or an intense, “perfect” peace.
- Presence vs. Absence: Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of Someone. Jesus promised that in this world we would have trouble, but in Him, we have shalom.
The Role of the Mind (Staying Fixed)
God promises to keep us in perfect peace, but there is a specific condition: the position of our minds.
- The “Stayed” Mind: The Hebrew word somak means to “prop up” or “lean upon.” It is the idea of leaning your mind’s weight entirely on God.
- Christianity is Not Blind: Faith involves the mind. We are commanded to love God with our minds, renew our minds (Romans 12:2), and set our minds on things above (Colossians 3:2).
- The Battle for Focus: Satan uses distractions—social media, news cycles, and fear—to pull our minds off God. To stay in peace, we must choose to consume the Word of God more than we consume the worries of the world.
Trusting the Eternal Rock
We fix our minds on whatever we trust. If we trust the news, our minds fixate on the news. If we trust God, our focus shifts to Him.
- A Solid Foundation: Isaiah 26:4 calls God the “Eternal Rock.” While earthly rocks crack and wear away, God never tires, breaks, or diminishes.
- Trust Over Understanding: Proverbs 3:5 commands us to lean not on our own understanding. When we stop trying to sustain ourselves with our own logic and lean on the Rock, we find stability.
Restoration: The Path to Peace
You cannot trust a God you do not know. True peace begins with a personal relationship.
- The Barrier of Sin: Humanity was created for fellowship, but sin separated us from the presence of God.
- The Price of Peace: According to Isaiah 53:5 , the punishment that brought us peace was laid upon Jesus. He was crushed so that we could be reconciled.
- A Personal Choice: Peace with God isn’t found through a pastor or a church building; it is a personal rebirth through the Holy Spirit.
